Ben Goodman: Bodies of Work |
EquilibriumWe exist in a world that is in a constant state of shifting tensions and forces - environmentally, politically and within our personal lives. The successful balancing of these tensions can create a desireable state of equilibrium. In the first of this series, I used found wood that often develops splits (checks) as it dries. Glass offers a fragile and tentative means of holding the wood together. The glass could easily be fractured by tightening the steel bolts or if the wood continues to expand and check. The tension of the work exists in the power of the moving wood, the force created by the steel bolts, and the delicacy of the glass.
